Seven Solutions For Systemic Change

Ready to make the change and fight the climate crisis? Here's how you can get started.

We are the ones we’ve been waiting for.

-Greta Thunberg, 16 (Sweden)

Youth around the world are taking action to demand an end to the age of fossil fuels. Between September 20-27 millions of us will walk out of our workplaces and homes to join the climate strikers because we need to respond to the climate crisis like the emergency it is.

According to the United Nations, we must address the climate crisis immediately to prevent irreversible change to the climate—change which would dramatically alter all life on this planet.

We are here to send a message: we cannot be ignored, and our future is not a bargaining chip.

- Asha Mior, 17 (BC, Canada)

We know our heating planet is already hurting millions of people.

Countries need to reduce carbon emissions to prevent the temperature of the earth from rising above 1.5°C. Globally this means that we need to reduce CO2 emissions by 50% in the next 10 years. If we don't, the injustice of the climate crisis will only get worse.

In the next few generations, what will matter is that most of us stood by and did nothing as our world collapsed under our weight. It will be OUR FAULT.

-Kimaya Mahajan, 14 (WA, USA)

We know the solutions are available now.

Immediately reducing the use of fossil fuels—such as oil, gas and coal—and replacing them with 100% renewable energy for all and increasing efficiency is required on individual and systemic levels.

We know how we act in the next year or two will determine the future.

The rest of my life is literally on the line.

- Feliquan Charlemagne, 17 (FL, USA)

We know we have the power to change.

Seven Solutions for Systemic Change

To fight the climate crisis, it’s going to take a lot of collective action and creative thinking—together, we have the power to do it. Here are some tips to make changes in our lives and to influence global leaders to take bold action for our futures.

HIT THE STREETS

It’s imperative that global leaders hear from us. When we join marches like the Climate Strike, we’re joining the global rallying cry for action to address the climate crisis.

BUILD POLITICAL POWER

It's time to make our voices and our actions count. Not only can we hold leaders accountable, we can become the leaders we’ve been waiting for. Get engaged, register to vote, run for office and make your voice heard.

FUEL CHANGE

Move sustainably, move green. Drive less and opt for public transportation or, if you're feeling really green, cycle. Advocate for our cities and towns to transition to zero-emission cars, trucks and buses.

LOCALIZE OUR FOOD

Industrial agriculture contributes to greenhouse gases in a big way. Grow food. Grow your community. Support local farmers and small-scale farms growing solutions to feed the world and cool the planet.

WATER FOR ALL

The world’s water is under threat. At home, treat water like the precious resource it is by installing greywater systems, low-flow toilets and more. It's time to advocate for water as a human right—safe, affordable, public—around the world.

GREEN OUR POWER

Transitioning from fossil fuels is crucial. There are hundreds of ways to green our homes and reduce energy use. Advocate for a just transition from fossil fuels to 100% wind, water and sun power.

TRY PLANT-BASED

Meat consumption contributes to the climate crisis via greenhouse gases from livestock, water use and deforestation. Opt for a vegan diet or incorporate more plant-based food into your meals. Reducing demand for meat will shift food production and allow for innovative solutions to feed the planet’s growing population.
