What We Fund

Charity Pot grants support small, grassroots organizations in North America and around the world, allocating funds to groups working on the frontlines of human rights, animal protection and environmental justice. These organizations create long-term systemic change by working on the root causes of issues. These hardworking groups are often involved in challenging and changing mainstream opinions—fighting for causes that funders often overlook.

We believe that both power and grassroots solutions to issues that matter lie with these hardworking groups, so we prioritize projects led by impacted communities and frontline voices. Our grant makers actively seek out BIPOC, queer, and women-led organizations. We take a holistic approach to funding, becoming allies on issues and encourage our staff and customers to become catalysts for change by connecting to our partners and taking action.

Our approach

Our approach is informed by the work of Edgar Villanueva and the Decolonizing Wealth Project, which seeks to disrupt the existing systems of moving and controlling capital. To become part of the cycle of reciprocity, we donate 100 percent of the purchase price (minus the taxes) of every Charity Pot Body Lotion sold. We’re grateful for this leading work and trusted advisors and partners who encourage us to constantly innovate and shift harmful power relationships prevalent in philanthropy.

The impact

To date, we’ve supported thousands of inspiring organizations committed to making change locally with far-reaching impact. Sixty-five percent of the organizations we support are in North America, while the remaining 35 percent are around the world. International grants go to supporting local grassroots organizations where decision-making is held by local leaders or communities.

We recognize that we do this work on Indigenous territory across Turtle Island. Our commitment to reconciliation and decolonization is guided by the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada: Calls to Action #92 and in allyship with Indigenous People everywhere, including staff, customers and with leadership from organizations and communities we work with.

Human rights

To dismantle injustice, we support groups standing for the rights, visibility and equality of all people worldwide and for the defense of those most vulnerable.

A group near and dear to our hearts is Montréal en Action.

In their own words: “Montréal en Action believes in democracy. Many systemic inequities in employment, housing, culture, and public safety still marginalize racialized communities. Through citizen initiatives, mobilization campaigns, and the creation of educational content, we aim to bring awareness and to motivate people to become impactful change-makers in their communities.”

Animal protection

To end animal exploitation, we fight for their liberation and recognize animals as sentient beings, deserving of care and protection. We believe animals should not be subjected to cruelty or exploitation for human gain.
